  • Summer Music Festivals with Tar Éis Óir

    Dear Members,

As some of you may be aware, over the past few years, Ireland's largest youth organisation, Scouting Ireland has been offering a tent pitching service at the two biggest music festivals in Ireland - Oxegen and The Electric Picnic. The partnership between Scouting Ireland and these two festivals has been a tremendous success with tents being pitched and collected for festival goers and money being raised for Charity as well, not to mention some top class music acts being thrown into the mix!

This year, the tent pitching service is being vastly expanded and in order to meet demand Scouting Ireland is engaged in discussions with TEO about a partnership for Oxegen 08 and potentially other festivals in the future whereby we will help out our colleagues in Scouting Ireland with their activities at these events. This year Oxegen festival will take place from July 9th to 14th at Punchestown Racecourse in Co. Kildare

    What's Involved?
During the course of the festival, it is proposed that volunteers from Scouting Ireland and Tar Éis Óir will work together on shifts, pitching and repairing tents for festival goers for a small fee. At the end of the festival tents and sleeping bags that are in good condition and donated by festival goers will be collected by volunteers from both organisations and sent to charities overseas enabling the tents and sleeping bags to be used as emergency shelters in conflict zones around the world.

    What's in it for me?
Tar Éis Óir's proposed collaboration with Scouting Ireland is a great chance for us to promote The Presidents Award with people from all over the country and do some work great work for charity. There are some other obvious benefits as well, its not all work and there will be free time, you'll be getting to see some of the best music acts around right now and you'll be there without having to worry about forking out €244.50 for a ticket! Click http://www.oxegen.ie/2008/lineup to check out the lineup!

We hope your interested in the proposed event and will support us in making this event a success. To get a booking form, Tar Éis Óir at tareisoir@gmail.com and return it no latter than 17:00 June 20th.

Hi guys! Great page. This is my first year as a PAL, having done my bronze and silver years ago. I'm working on finding something fun for my Bronze candidates for the adventure section in Waterford, but ye'r pics of Glendalough look so much nicer than Waterford..... Thinking of starting the Gold myself, trying to get some friends to do it with me. If I manage to tempt them I'll be back here looking for ideas. Keep up the great work. Slán

We will be recruiting from the 23rd fo September. And if anyone is interested in knowing more about what we do then check out our page. But membership of our unit would allow for 50% of any medal to be completed. Hi TEO. Greetings from Foz Iguassu, Brazil. Michelle and I are having a great time and are really taking the spirit of the Award with us - Go Discover. We've seen and done so much - hangliding in Rio de Janeiro, surfing on Lopez Mendes beach on Ihla Grande which hasn't even got any roads, eating squirrel, and emu and various other meats which I decided it might be best to be polite and not ask what I was eating in case I didn't like the answer & fishing for piranha and being badly bitten but having my revenge by cooking and eating the slippery git! Hope all's well back on the Emerald Isle. Sean & Michelle
